When I was younger and in pain with my teeth, I would go to a dentist. The dentist would drain the abcess, pull the tooth (or root canal, or fill it, whatever it needed), and send me home with an antibiotic and no more pain. Those were the good old days.
Now, I go to a dentist and they will not even touch me, until I have been on an antibiotic for a week. This is horrible service, it's inhumane, and it doesn't make sense.
I should never be sent home in the same pain.
I am prompted to write this, because two weeks ago I went to a dentist with terrible pain. He wrote me out a prescription for an antibiotic and a pain killer. I asked if there was anything he could do now, and he said, "no, because you're in pain." WHAT?!
I went home, followed the directions on the antibiotic and proceeded to overdose on it. They never even look at me to know that I only weigh 110 lbs., and I cannot take the full dosage like most adults.
Sick as a dog, I visited the dentist again. They changed my antibiotic and gave me another pain killer that wouldn't make me nauseous. (I never took the first pain pill, because I was nauseous enough.)
It is 6 days later. I have finished with the Cipro, and I am still in pain. The abcess burst by itself 5 days ago. I drained it the best I could, but I am still in pain. I have an appointment to have the tooth removed in 4 more days.
Is it just me, or am I justified in being mad as hell that my dentist is letting this happen to me?
If I have written to the wrong party, PLEASE please pass this on to someone who can give me some response to this. I don't ever want to go through this again.
I'm on coumadin/warfaren which is a blood thinner and my doctor just prescribed for me to start taking an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection sulfamethoxazole-tmp . And on the warning label it says do not take while on blood thinners / Warfarin. And also says it may cause blood clots. Yet my doctor prescribed this combination. He has me on 5 milligrams of Coumadin a day. And he wants me to keep taking that dosage of Coumadin while taking this Antibiotic at the same time. Is this dangerous?
the warnings on the Antibiotic say " it can increase the effects of blood thinners such as Warfarin/warfaren (blood thinners)
